Altos Sectional

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010

(3/7/2010) From Section Leader Debbie: Dear All,

Ellie has expressed interest in hosting a rehearsal for the altos on Tuesday evening. Please let her know if you could/would plan to attend. The space is limited and a big interest would mean joining the basses at the larger venue per the pervious alto/bass rehearsal email.

Altos at Bass Sectional

Friday, March 5th, 2010

From Section Leader Debbie:

Ray Lombardi and John Mason said we could join the basses at the location below for a Tuesday evening rehearsal.

As far as I know, we (the Altos) have no other plans to gather. I will be rehearsing something else, at another venue next week. If you want to get back to me about going to the First Christian Church to rehearse, I will let Ray and John know to expect you.

Also, there are a few people who do not receive messages I send via this alias so please contact your NVCC alto friends about this opportunity and possible carpooling.

Bass Sectional

Friday, March 5th, 2010

(3/4/2010) From Section Leader Ray:

Nova will be closed on Tuesday, March 9 so there will be no rehearsal at Tyler.

Still, I suspect numbers of us could use a refresher on the Opera Choruses at this point.

John Mason has found a choir hall with a piano and plenty of room for both the Bass section and any members of the other three sections who might like to join us at 7:30 next Tuesday.

Soprano Sectional

Thursday, March 4th, 2010

From Section Leader Peggy:

We have an offer [see below] for a location for a soprano sectional rehearsal next Tuesday. I plan to be there, and can play our part, if necessary.

From Chorister Leslie:

I invite the sopranos to my office next Tuesday eve for a sectional rehearsal. I can bring a keyboard and have 15 chairs in my office. I have room for about 20 or so in one room.

Men’s Concert Dress

Thursday, March 4th, 2010

(3/3/2010) From Stage Manager Fred:

Men – wear black tuxedos, shoes, socks, bow tie, white dress shirt for the performance.

Do not wear a tux to the “DRESS REHEARSAL – only the performance.

Music must be in a black folder or equivalent. I encourage using smaller folders since we will be tightly packed on the risers. Foxes Music in Falls Church is the best place I know of.

Use your folder NOW to practice with it before the dress rehearsal.

If you don’t own a black tux you might borrow or rent one.

If you expect to be with us for awhile longer, buy one.

A temporary alternative is a black dress suit that looks like a black tux from the audience.

I use a standard white dress shirt rather than a formal, frilled tux shirt. (comfort, cost, etc.)

I also prefer a black bow tie that goes around your neck rather than a clip-on. (won’t fall off)

Use good judgment about cuff links, etc. We are there to sing, not show off.

Dear Singers-

I hope that this message finds you safe and warm and enjoying the slower pace that Mother Nature can impose on us. As you probably know, the college will remain closed tomorrow, so there is no rehearsal.

Had we had rehearsed last week, we would have worked on all 6 Opera Chouses and Carmina Burana #1, 24, & 22.

If we were able to rehearse this week, we would have worked on all 6 Opera Chouses and Carmina Burana #18, 19, & 20.

You can get your notes at

www.cyberbass.com/Major_Works/Orff/orff_carmina_burana.htm

(You don’t have to buy anything. You can listen to your part on the computer free of charge.)

Please work on your music, especially the Opera Choruses, as the concert will be here before we know it.

I know that you will work hard, because that’s what the NOVA Community Chorus does.

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

Dear Singers-

As you see below, the college has closed. So build a fire, get a refreshing beverage, and snuggle up with your Opera Choruses. Maybe a nice Italian red is a good choice.

Seriously, we can’t let the weather make us behind schedule. So I am counting on each of you to work on your music and especially your Italian diction. Remember, it took me many hours to put your notes and words on the CD. It will be time well spent only if you work many hours on your notes and words.
